Terms and conditions
The rules for using this site and buying or sponsoring a Community Shark Bite Kit.

Your agreement with us
These terms apply when you use this website or place an order through the Community Shark Bite Kits shop operated by Bite Aid. By using the site or buying from us, you agree to them.
We are a community-funded volunteer project based in Australia. We sell weatherproof trauma kits for installation on beaches and coastal places, and we run a sponsorship programme so communities can fund kits where they are needed most.
If anything here does not make sense, email us before you order. We would rather answer a question than argue about it later.
Using this website
You may browse the site, read our resources and use the kit register without an account. You need an account to buy or sponsor a kit, because every kit is funded by someone and we need to be able to send you a receipt and tell you what happened to your order.
Please do not:
- misuse the site or try to interfere with how it runs;
- submit false information on a form or at checkout;
- copy, scrape or republish content from this site without our permission; or
- use the site in a way that breaks any law.
Training videos on our resources page are provided for general education. They are not a substitute for accredited first aid training, and they do not create a professional relationship between you and Bite Aid.
Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for what happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it.
You can update your details and delete your account from your account page. Deleting an account does not delete orders you have already placed — those are financial records we are required to keep. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy policy.
Placing an order
The shop sells two kinds of thing, and they work differently:
- Buy a kit
- You are ordering a physical kit — the sealed insert, the hardware to install it, and the incident management cards inside. If something in your order is being posted to you, we will ask for a delivery address. If you are arranging installation at a beach or coastal site, we will ask where it should go.
- Sponsor a kit
- You are paying for a kit to be installed where it is needed. There is no parcel sent to you. At checkout you can choose an existing site from our register, nominate a new place, or leave the destination to us. You can also tell us how you would like the sponsorship credited — a name, a dedication, and whether we may name you publicly. Every part of that is optional except that we need to know who funded the kit.
Prices are shown in Australian dollars and include GST where it applies. The total you see at checkout is what we will ask you to pay, including any delivery charge quoted for your state and postcode. An order is not accepted until we confirm it — see payment below.
We may refuse or cancel an order before it is accepted — for example if a product is unavailable, if we cannot deliver to the address given, or if we suspect fraud. If that happens we will tell you and refund anything you have already paid.
Payment
How you pay depends on what we have configured for the shop. The options available to you — and any instructions that come with them — are shown at checkout and on your order confirmation. Follow those instructions; they are the ones that apply to your order.
We do not collect card details on this website unless a payment provider is connected and shown to you at checkout. Until then, payment is arranged with you directly once the order is in — typically by email.
Donations through our GoFundMe campaign are handled entirely on GoFundMe's own site under their terms. They are separate from shop orders on this site.
Delivery and installation
Physical kits are sent within Australia. Delivery times, carriers and any restrictions are set out on our shipping and returns page, which forms part of these terms.
Sponsored kits are installed by arrangement once the order is confirmed and the site is ready. A kit may appear on our locations register as “awaiting installation” until that work is done. We will keep you informed by email.
Risk in a physical kit passes to you when it is delivered to the address you gave us, or when you or your installer collect it, whichever happens first.
Sponsorship credit
If you sponsor a kit and ask us to credit you publicly, we will use the name or wording you provide on the kit's page on this site and in our records. We may shorten or adjust formatting for space, but we will not change what you meant.
If you choose not to be named publicly, we will not publish your name on the register. We still keep a private record of who funded the kit, because that is how we run the programme.
By giving us text to publish, you confirm you have the right to use it and that it is not offensive, misleading or unlawful. We may refuse or remove credit that breaks those rules.
Using a kit
Our kits are designed to help someone respond in an emergency until professional help arrives. They are trauma supplies and plain-language guidance, not medical treatment and not a guarantee of any particular outcome.
Check expiry dates and contents regularly. If something in an installed kit is missing, damaged or expired, use the kit issue form so we can get it back into service. That form is for field problems with installed kits, not for shop-order returns — those are covered under shipping and returns.
Returns and refunds
Our returns, replacement and refund rules for shop orders are on the shipping and returns page. That page applies to physical goods you buy from us. It does not cover kits already installed in the community register, which are maintained under our kit issue process instead.
Content and trade marks
The Community Shark Bite Kits name, logo, website content, photographs and product design belong to Bite Aid or our licensors. You may share links to this site and quote short passages with attribution. You may not reuse our images, copy or branding as if they were your own.
Training videos on our resources page are hosted by our training partner and remain their property. Your use of those videos is also subject to YouTube's terms when you press play.
Our liability
Australian Consumer Law gives you rights that cannot be excluded. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.
Subject to that, and to any non-excludable guarantees, our kits and this website are provided on an “as is” basis. To the extent the law allows, Bite Aid is not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including loss of profit, loss of data, or injury arising from how a kit is used in an emergency — except where we have acted with gross negligence or in bad faith.
Where we are liable, our liability for any single order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.
Privacy
We handle personal information as described in our privacy policy. By using this site you acknowledge that policy.
Changes to these terms
We will update this page when the shop or the site changes — for example if we start taking card payments on the site itself, or if our delivery or returns rules change. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. If a dispute cannot be resolved between us, the courts of New South Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
